SUN Automation Group®
Providing corrugated box plants with innovative equipment for feeding, printing, and converting
SUN Automation Group® is a global industry leader providing corrugated box plants with innovative equipment for feeding, printing, and converting.
The wide range of products are proven solutions for increasing production, efficiency, and profitability. With 24/7 on-site technical support, SUN Automation is known for its exceptional service and outstanding customer care. Headquartered outside of Baltimore, MD, SUN Automation has service centers around the globe.
SUN began as an idea set forth by our founders —Lou Sardella and Pat O’Connor — to create a new company rooted in a desire to provide innovative product solutions to the corrugated industry. In order to build a brand known for pioneering product development, the highest level of manufacturing quality, and absolute dedication to customers with support and service, Sardella and O’Connor banded together to birth SUN. In 1986 they officially named the new enterprise SUN Automation Group® and the historic journey began. What began in a small townhouse in northern Baltimore County has grown to become one of the most well-respected equipment and product development companies serving the massive global corrugated industry.
The same spirit that inspired the founders to name the company SUN Automation, symbolizing bright solutions for automated production, continues to burn today, in multiple facilities around the globe. This inherited fuel is a deep passion to innovate and provide value to customers with innovative technology for the corrugated industry. In 2016, SUN Automation Group ® adopted its new tagline, which it feels truly communicates the value of SUN Automation: SUN Automation Group: “Where You’ll Find Everything Corrugated Under SUN”
With a strong foundation, our committed employee-owners and a robust understanding of the corrugated industry of the past, present, and future, it is clear that the future of SUN is bright, indeed.

Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
The ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) creates a direct link between the company interests and employee interests. Since SUN established its ESOP in 2003, 100% of the company’s stock has been held in a trust for employees as a qualified retirement plan. Therefore, participants have a vested interest in the results of their work and the company’s performance and growth.
As of 2012, the National Center for Employee Ownership (NCEO) estimates that about 12,000 ESOPs, profit sharing, and stock bonus plans invest primarily in employer stock, covering about 11 million employees.
