SUN Automation Group® 2018 SUPPLIER REPORT
–Customer-centric approach driving growth—
Glen Arm, MD: Chris Kyger reports— As a leading global provider of innovative solutions for the corrugated industry, SUN Automation Group® continues to develop solutions that are in-line with customer demands of today as well as tomorrow. This customer centric approach and “culture of listening” influenced many of the innovations, investments and partnerships that highlighted 2017 and continue to fuel growth for 2018.
Answering the corrugated industry’s demand for digital printing on corrugated, SUN continued to innovate with its CorrStream® digital printer and completed its first successful BETA testing with UK converter, HSG. This past year, SUN re-designed and upgraded CorrStream— the CorrStream Next Generation boasts a smaller footprint and modular design—making installs easier and faster than ever before. As the industry evolves, CorrStream users won’t have to worry about obsolescence. The new modular design enables seamless integration of new and emerging technologies. Customers can learn more about the CorrStream Next Generation in September at Corrugated Week 2018 in Indianapolis, IN or by visiting our state of the art facility in Glen Arm, Maryland.
SUN’s recent strategic alliance with JB Machinery, a top supplier of products and services for converters and OEMs, bolsters its commitment to traditional print systems as well. SUN now offers JB Machinery’s drying technology, well-known for its Infrared Drying (IR) and Ultraviolet Curing Systems, on its GraphiVac self-contained, stand-alone dwell section drying. The system can be retrofit on existing modular machines.
Customers have continued to embrace SUN’s Spectrum Print Unit for Inside Printing. The single pass system allows users to print on both sides of a corrugated box- leveraging previously untapped space to display additional advertising or other messaging. Efficient and flexible, the SUN Spectrum Print Unit for Inside Printing can be retrofitted seamlessly to nearly any machine.
SUN’s future is brightly lit by many of its existing sought-after solutions like the SUN625 rotary die cutter, of which SUN has several orders already for 2018. The SUN625 is widely recognized as a high production and reliable machine with record breaking MSF/hour production numbers.
Taking its rotary die cut solutions to the next level; SUN also continues to deliver its MicroGrind® solution to customers worldwide. The die cut accuracy system can be applied to top and bottom anvil applications to provide consistent, quality cuts with unbeatable speed and accuracy.
Another converting solution added to the portfolio last year comes as a result of the strategic partnership with Asahi. SUN continues to offer Asahi platen die cutters, including parts and service for new and existing machines, to customers in North and South America.
Celebrating the company’s growth and successes, SUN’s employee-owners further welcomed customers, industry leaders and friends to an open house at its new facility in Glen Arm, MD in the Fall of 2017. Guests were treated to tours of the facility’s streamlined layout which is designed to maximize productivity and further Lean Manufacturing. The expansive space further enables greater manufacturing and several new builds and R&D projects are slated throughout 2018.
And while there’s a lot of “new” happening at SUN, the company continues to work with Langston®, Ward machines and other customer OEM equipment, to improve reliability and increase productivity. As such, SUN provides extensive parts and service to help customers bring their workhorses back to OEM specification or better. These cost-effective solutions help customers maximize existing machinery while incorporating new technology previously unavailable on older models.
Overall, 2018 will be a productive year and teams are hard at work innovating new product solutions, fulfilling new orders, managing retrofits, supplying parts and expanding the existing portfolio of products with even more leading corrugated solutions. But most importantly, SUN continues its “culture of listening” to its customers and works tirelessly to be the trusted partner in the corrugated industry for integrated and independent box plants around the world.
With so many happenings going on, SUN encourages visits to its new, state-of-the-art facility in Glen Arm, Maryland. To contact directly call: 410-472-2900 or visit: sunautomation.com.
