Welch Packaging Breaks Production Records with Latitude Machinery’s Mini Line and SUN Automation Group’s Service and Support

July 23, 2026

At Welch Packaging’s Chicago facility, sustained performance is driven by more than advanced machinery — it’s the result of reliable equipment, disciplined operators, and service support that keeps production moving without interruption. That approach recently delivered a major milestone, with the team producing 206,750 boxes in an eight-hour shift on Latitude Machinery Corporation’s (LMC) SPP-Series Mini Line, setting a new internal benchmark for output and consistency.

The achievement highlights the strength of LMC’s latest generation of full-servo case makers, as well as the critical role SUN Automation Group® plays in supporting corrugated operations after installation.

Built for Control, Speed, and Consistency

Welch Packaging’s Mini Line is part of LMC’s SPP-Series, the newest evolution of the company’s mini- to mid-size case maker portfolio. The SPP-Series incorporates the proven structural enhancements of LMC’s PP platform while introducing a full servo design that delivers higher speeds, faster setup times, and precise, repeatable adjustments.

“At Welch Packaging, our relentless pursuit of technology is intended to allow our people to serve our customers better. By leveraging newly installed, state-of-the-art equipment through our partnership with LMC and SUN Automation, we set a new production benchmark—proving what’s possible when technology and partnerships align,” said Doug Poulston, General Manager at Welch Packaging Group. “This milestone reflects more than speed; it represents the power of collaboration to better serve customers and a strategic reinvestment in both machinery and the associates who run it. Together with LMC and SUN Automation, we’re driving smarter automation and greater reliability, all to deliver the ultimate corrugated experience for our customers—today and into the future.”

This servo-driven architecture gives operators exceptional control and flexibility, allowing the line to maintain consistent performance even when running complex packaging designs or frequent order changes. The result is smoother production, tighter tolerances, and greater confidence in long, high-output runs, enabling record-setting performance day in, day out.

Service That Keeps Performance on Track

While machine capability sets the foundation, Welch Packaging’s success is reinforced by SUN Automation Group’s Corrugated Service & Installations team.

“Performance like this doesn’t happen by accident,” said Greg Jones, Vice President of Global Sales at SUN Automation Group. “It’s the result of strong equipment, disciplined teams, and service support that stays engaged long after installation. Our role is to make sure customers like Welch Packaging have the resources, training, and responsiveness they need to keep pushing performance forward, shift after shift.”

SUN offers 24/7/365 service availability, ensuring that help is always accessible for routine support, urgent troubleshooting, or emergency response. Factory-trained technicians bring OEM-level expertise across SUN and partner equipment, including LMC systems, delivering confident, on-site problem-solving when it matters most.

A Model for Sustainable Performance

Welch Packaging’s milestone run is more than a single achievement — it reflects what’s possible when advanced servo-driven machinery is paired with dependable, around-the-clock service support. With LMC’s SPP-Series Mini Line delivering speed and precision, and SUN Automation Group ensuring uptime and operational confidence, the Chicago facility continues to raise the bar for performance in corrugated converting.

As demand for reliability, flexibility, and sustained output continues to grow, this combination of technology and service offers a clear blueprint for long-term success.
